Delivering Farm Fresh Greens for Generations
In the early 1920’s, the late Walter and Ernestine Rawl started a local small crop farm known as the Walter P. Rawl Farm. Using a horse and buggy, Walter would deliver produce to the local market in Columbia, SC. This journey would take at least two days from the farm location in Gilbert, SC.
The business evolved into a larger farm selling greens and specialty vegetables. In 1960, the company hired their first full-time truck drivers. At that time, the trailers had an ice bunker with an air-cooled engine and squirrel fan blowing over it to keep the fresh produce cool as the vegetables were delivered to customers in SC and NC.
